I had the honor to capture lil’ Keegan this morning just a day shy of his week birthday. He is such a good baby – sleeps really well, doesn’t complain too much except for when hungry and just goes with the flow. I suppose that with three siblings he has to learn quickly how to adapt. The last time I saw this lil’ man he was still in his mommy’s belly during their maternity photography session. The miracle of life is just amazing! Enjoy the sneak peek!
Andy was a joy to capture, especially since he’s the son of a friend of mine. Beautiful family J! So happy for you. Enjoy your music video.
I took this set of images of my lil’ Lily around Thanksgiving time, but just now got around to editing them. I just love the different expressions she gave me. I had made this tee pee the day before and really wanted to test it out. I had made a lot of different covers for this fun prop/play area, but chose this one as I thought it worked well with the time of year and with Lily’s outfit. I love the images I got of her on this day. Luckily, this set of portraits works for this week’s photography challenge of “framed” that I’m doing along with several other photographers as well. I just love it when things work out like that!

I just love the glow that women get in pregnancy and when you add just the perfect lighting during those magical hours of the day, it’s just heavenly! This portrait session took place in August. We had a brutally hot summer and we delayed this session a little bit for the safety of baby and mommy, as the original scheduled portrait day was 114 degrees with the heat index. The morning of this session was perfect though. Cooler temps, beautiful early morning sun and comfy subjects produced some beautiful maternity portraits for this family! We were able to mix two different styles into this session outdoors as mom-to-be wanted beautiful images surrounded in nature and dad-to-be wanted more dramatic images of his beautiful wife. Luckily we were able to do both all at one location! I think it turned out beautifully. Enjoy!

So, I had two photo challenges this week with various photographers – “framed” and then “shallow depth of field.” Since I was limited on time this week, I did one photo that suits both of those themes. Pink Noise! I used to have a noise machine that I used at all my newborn portrait sessions, but I now have an app on my iPhone that I use instead. It’s quite magical actually. It basically makes infants (and sometimes parents) fall into a deep sleep while canceling out other noises (like my camera clicking away). There are other sounds I can choose from with this app and I can even mix and match, but so far, pink noise seems to be a winner. What a great tool to have in my bag!

This lil’ man belongs to one of my good friends from my video producing days. When I heard that his son arrived on Christmas, I couldn’t be more thrilled. Baby A’s daddy had always been so good to me and it was such an honor to capture his lil’ one this afternoon. When I walked into baby Andy’s room, I saw him laying in his crib and my immediate thought was, “What a cute baby doll!” I literally thought that he was his big sister’s doll. Well, I was right, but it wasn’t a toy baby, but a real one. He’s so adorable and just perfect in every way. J and M couldn’t be luckier parents and I know big sister will be such a good guide to this lil’ man through the journey of life. She’s already lending a helping hand and you can tell that she just adores her baby brother. Enjoy the sneak peek and congrats my friend. I’m so happy for you and your growing family.
Well, it’s now week two of the 52 week challenge that I’m doing with a group of fellow photographers. The theme for today is “delicate” and what’s more fitting than a newborn curled up just like in the womb?! Ahhh…those toes, those fingers, that mouth, that whispy hair….pure love.

This family was such a joy to photograph during their portrait session this summer. Their son was so happy and curious and I just love how he squeezes his eyes almost shut when he laughs. You can really tell how smitten his parents are with their son and how this lil’ man adores his parents. There’s just a glow around this family and it was an honor to capture that magic for this family. They spend a lot of time at the St. Louis City Garden in the summer, so it was the perfect place to capture this beautiful family. If you haven’t been there, you should really check it out. Great place for families any time of year, but it’s especially fun for the kiddos in the summer when they can play in the fountains.

I joined a 52 week challenge with a group of photographers where every week we have an “assignment” based on a theme. This week’s theme is high key. I decided to capture my lil’ lady, Lily. She was already playing with my jewelry on my bed and had fallen asleep, so it was an easy task. Funny how she didn’t seem surprised when she woke up to the sound of my camera shutter. (hmmmm….I wonder why that would be?!) Check out those last two images…she has three teeth all hanging in by a thread and so the next time I take a picture of her I’m sure her smile will be totally different. Technically, these aren’t really high key, so I cheated a bit, but I decided to be a rebel and break the rules.

OK, so I know we’re in winter now, but I thought I’d warm things up with a look at a family portrait session from this summer. This family was so much fun to photograph and they were such troopers dealing with the St. Louis July heat. We got up super early to get that gorgeous light and to get the coolest temps of the day. Totally worth it even though we were all pretty much drenched by the end of the session. (You’d never know from looking at these images though) These portraits just make me smile. Hope these brighten your day as well.
