Wentzville Maternity Photographer | Expecting!

January 29, 2011

Last weekend we had this beautiful couple’s pregnancy portrait session scheduled, but we got snowed out, but today was PERFECT! Temps were in the mid 40s and the perfect amount of snow to photograph nature’s beauty this winter. I was concerned about this beautiful mama-to-be slipping out there, but it turned out that it was me I should have been worried about. Thankfully I never fell, but I did some fun tricks trying to recover quite a few times. Quite entertaining I’m sure… I never saw her slip or falter even once, so that’s all that mattered. Graceful lady! This couple will make some great parents to their baby boy when he enters this world, which may come sooner than later since his mommy has been having contractions already. Such an exciting time! Congrats and enjoy the sneak peek! Thanks for letting me capture this special time in your lives.

Today I’m…

When I was pregnant, I searched for that perfect baby journal. A month before I gave birth to my lil’ Lily, I found exactly what I was looking for! I absolutely love Lily’s baby journal. It’s simple, classy, timeless and has plenty of room for my notes, pictures and special mementos. I love going through her journal and taking in all of those moments again. Perfect way for me to remember that time in our lives and how much has changed since then. This morning, I was reminiscing about Lily’s early days, with the help of this book, and I came across the hand and foot prints of our lil’ baby. She was three days old and we had just came home from the hospital. She was sound asleep and we decided to start filling out her journal. I wanted to do her hand and foot prints first because I was afraid she’d grow too fast and we’d miss documenting how tiny she was {as if she would grow within a few hours…} Michael got a stamp pad and I held Lily in my arms in amazement. We got the foot print perfectly on the page, but the hand was a different story… She wanted to keep her hand in a fist, so it was hard to get her hand flat to get the ink on there and then when it came time to print her hand on the page, it took three tries. Michael and I laughed about the whole ordeal while Lily just slept through it all. Didn’t phase her one bit. Of course immediately after, I had a lil’ freak out while wondering if the ink would come off her skin, but just as Michael promised, it came off without a problem. {give me some slack…I was a new mom!} Looking at those lil’ prints today brings back so many memories and I’m just amazed at how quickly she’s grown and how fast things change. Lily is such a blessing to have in my life and I am so thankful to have this baby journal as a keepsake – not only for me, but for her as well.

Edited to add: Since writing this post, I’ve had several people write to me about where I found Lily’s Baby Journal. I got it a little over four years ago at Barnes & Noble, but after some searching, I found it on Amazon this evening! It’s simply titled “My Baby’s Journal.” Enjoy!

Town & Country Family Portrait Photographer | Dittu’s Music Video!

January 25, 2011

It was fun capturing this family over this past weekend. They’re not used to the snow, so we had to get a few outdoor portraits in all that mother nature has given us recently. Dittu wasn’t sure what to make of it all, but his parents really seemed to enjoy making snow balls and playing in the white coldness for a little bit. This family has so much fun together and you can tell that they truly enjoy their time together and the bonds that they’re making with their new son are just priceless. Lots of games and laughter in this household! Enjoy the music video!

Lil’ Dittu was a joy to photograph this morning! He is a little bit over 9 months old and is already walking while keeping his family busy and entertained. He’s such a lucky boy to have his grandparents staying with him for a few months from India while being surrounded by the love of his parents as well. Very special! Isn’t he just the cutest? He has the longest eyelashes and I seriously don’t know how anyone could say no to those eyes. Such a charmer at a young age! Enjoy the sneak peek. More to come later!

Today I’m…

I’ve been looking forward to a good snow in St. Louis for quite some time now and I got my wish! It started snowing last night and this morning I woke to about six inches of snow. YAY! I felt like a kid who couldn’t wait to go play outside in all that glorious, beautiful snow, but the best part is seeing Lily’s reaction to it all. Totally makes my day! I made a nice hot breakfast for Lily and I and then we bundled up before heading outside. I spent the majority of the time shoveling while Lily dug tunnels in the big mounds of snow I was building, but after that it was all snow angels and snow fights. It’s so nice not having anywhere to go today so that we can just enjoy ourselves and the beauty wonder nature has brought our way. For those of you who aren’t quite as lucky…drive safe and try to enjoy the views before it’s all gone.

Fenton Baby Photographer | Caleb’s Music Video!

January 14, 2011

What a delight this family was to capture for Caleb’s three month baby photo session! The way these parents interact with their son makes it seem like they’ve been doing this whole parenting gig for YEARS instead of a few months. We got some great captures of his life right now. When you see the lil’ man in his crib, keep in mind that his grandpa made it! What a great heirloom that will be cherished and passed down through the generations. Enjoy the music video!

I just adore family heirlooms. So much history and sentimental meaning. These gifts passed down through the generations are truly priceless to me and pieces that I will always cherish. This piano was Michael’s Great Aunt’s. It was such an honor to have this musical instrument passed down to us. Every time I see it or it’s played, I think of Emma. I can visualize it in the corner of her living room and Lily trying to play it like a big girl – turning those pages with her chubby baby fingers gingerly before pounding on the keys. I think of the stories I had heard of Emma and her sister playing piano and how they even had the piano bench reupholstered to match their wing back chairs and couch. The piano doesn’t look like it’s aged much even though it’s been in the family for years {Emma was 100 years old when she passed}, which is proof of how much love and care was given to this beauty. It brings me such joy having this piece of history in our house and I feel that a part of Michael’s family runs through my fingers every time I play this Cable Nelson and for this…I’m thankful.

St. Louis City Newborn Photographer | Family of Four!

January 11, 2011

This family grew to that of four a little earlier than expected. Zach must have been in a rush to see 2010 since he arrived 12 days earlier than his due date. Luckily his parents and brother were ready and anxiously awaiting his appearance. This family’s portrait session took place on the first of the new year and it was a great way for me to start 2011. I just adore lil’ babies – especially as young as four days! He slept almost the entire time I was there and when he was busy doing his baby things, his big brother and I got to play with trains. Such a fun family and it was an honor to capture them at this special time.

Fenton Baby Photography | Three Months!

January 8, 2011

This sweet lil’ boy was such a delight to capture this morning! He’s a mere three months and even though he just started day care, he’s still on a very good schedule. What lucky parents! Caleb wasn’t into being naked today even though his mom really wanted to capture those dimples and rolls, but we got some amazing shots of him with his adorable baby clothes! {shhhh…don’t tell mom, but I did get a great naked shot of the lil’ man that I’ll share later}

I just adore sleeping babes. I love the noises they make, how they suck their lips as if a pacifier is in their mouth still, and of course just how heavenly peaceful they are during those moments. I’m so blessed to be around these sleepy moments and it’s an honor that families share these intimate moments with me as I photograph their babies. Now, I have to say…my daughter asked me before I left for my session if the baby’s mommy was as pretty as a princess, and I have to say, “Yes, she is!” Adorable family. This princess found her prince charming in Nebraska and they now have their very own lil’ prince to round out their family here in St. Louis. Enjoy the sneak peek. More to come…
